An epic romantic film with an extraterrestrial twist is set to star Demi Moore and Colman Domingo. They will portray well-known UFO characters Betty and Barney Hill in the Strange Arrivals film, which was directed by Roger Ross Williams.
The story of Betty and Barney Hill is a fascinating one. For a start, they were an interracial couple in the early '60s, which was rare enough in of itself. But then came the alleged alien abduction. The Hills always maintained that they were abducted by aliens while driving back from Nigara Falls in September 1961. They even underwent hypnosis to explain what they saw, but naturally many people disbelieved them, claiming they hallucinated as a result of sleep deprivation.
Moore, a favourite of the 1990s film industry, recently returned with the horror movie The Substance, for which she received an Oscar nomination. Due to his roles in Rustin and Sing Sing, Domingo was also nominated for an Oscar in 2024 and 2025. Additionally, Roger Ross Williams won an Oscar in 2009 for his short film Music by Prudence. He was the first Academy Award-winning Black director.
See-Saw Films are making the film. According to Deadline, the producers are Emile Sherman, Iain Canning, Samantha Lang and Anne Carey, while the executive producers are Simon Gillis, Garth Davis, Roger Ross Williams, Thorsten Schumacher, Aaron Mahnke, Bob Pittman, Conal Byrne and Geoff Martz. Jane Anderson will be writing the script.
Williams expressed his enthusiasm for the movie in a statement to the press. "It will be magic when Demi and Colman work together for the first time to bring Jane Anderson's exquisite script that highlights the human condition to life," he said. "I am also ecstatic to be working with See-Saw's incredible crew. They have a remarkable history of creating tales that are driven by artists, and we are in excellent hands.
Roger Ross Williams Is An Extremely Accomplished Director
Williams is well known for his short films and documentaries, and the team at See-Saw are thrilled to have him on board. “Roger is a filmmaker with a remarkable ability to draw out layered, deeply authentic performances and tell stories that resonate long after the credits roll,” said Canning and Sherman to Deadline. “His passion for exploring the depths of the human condition and his skill at navigating the blurred lines between truth, fear, and the unknown, make him the perfect director to bring Betty and Barney Hill’s gripping story to life. With the powerhouse combination of Demi and Colman leading the cast, the film promises to be a captivating and unforgettable cinematic experience.”
Samantha Lang added, “This is a captivating love story, brought to the screen by the magnificent Jane Anderson. With Roger Ross Williams’ humane and potent directorial vision, and with the extraordinary Demi Moore and Colman Domingo, reimagining this iconic moment in history. I feel incredibly honored to be a part of bringing this epic romance to audiences.”
