Bhootnii Review: The horror-comedy starring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari is yet another predictable movie that fails to live up to expectations

On May 1, 2025, the most recent Bollywood horror-comedy starring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari was released in theatres. Before you see it, read our review.

Short Story:

1)The Bhootnii, starring Sunny Singh, disappoints as a horror-comedy

2)The film revolves around a magical 'Virgin Tree' and a love-lorn soul's curse

3)Subdued performances and a weak plot fail to engage the audience

The Bhootnii Movie Review:

The "Virgin Tree," a miraculous tree that aids in the discovery of sacchi mohabbat, or pure love, is the literal centre of the Siddhant Sachdev-directed movie. After pleading with the tree to locate his soul mate, a distraught Shantanu (Sunny Singh) falls victim to the curse of a soul bereft of love. What comes next is a pathetic attempt at comedy, horror, drama, and love.

Bhootnii: Bollywood’s last horror-comedy!

Because of its shallow plot and lacklustre performances, the first half leaves you with nothing to cling to. The harm is too great to be repaired, even though the filmmakers attempt to include several tadka in the second half. The romance lacks spark, the laughs seem contrived, and the horror doesn't really startle.

There isn’t much to comment on regarding the performances, although Sanjay Dutt as Baba brings some flair to an otherwise lackluster script. However, the star has limited opportunities beyond strutting about in a Krrish-like outfit as the ghostbuster, eliminating both good and evil spirits. Sunny Singh puts in effort but doesn't quite make the mark, while the two female leads - Mouni Roy and Palak Tiwari - come off as unimpressive in their roles.

‘The Bhootnii’ box office collections day 1:
According to early estimates from the Sacnilk website , the film earned Rs 65 lakhs net on Day 1 (Thursday, May 1, 2025), indicating a lukewarm response from audiences despite its unique blend of horror and comedy.

There are a plethora of options at the ticket windows. As most know, Raid 2 is dominating the ticket windows. But Kesari Chapter 2, Jaat, and Ground Zero are also welcoming footfalls. The Bhootnii is among the last choice for the audience. It witnessed only 7% growth on Saturday, earning 1.27 crores.

The 3-day total at the Indian box office lands at 3.49 crore net, which is around 4.11 crores in gross earnings. Of course, this is not what one expects from a film starring Sanjay Dutt, but the reviews haven’t been very favorable either.
