Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is a new Hindi-language heist thriller now streaming on Netflix. Starring Saif Ali Khan, the film is also available in Telugu. Here’s our review – read on to find out what we think.
World-famous robber Rehan Roy (Saif Ali Khan), still troubled by his father's desertion, lives in hiding on Istanbul's streets. His calm life is upended when his younger brother finds him and breaks the stunning news that their father's failing clinic has laundered a significant sum of black money through Rajan Aulakh (Jaideep Ahlawat), a strong person with close ties to the mafia. Rajan now seeks retribution, requiring Rehan to steal the "Red Sun," a valuable diamond that belongs to Prince Gamunu of Africa (Peter Muxka Manuel) and is on display in a highly guarded museum in India. Rajan agrees to save their father's life and honour in return.
In this heist thriller, Saif Ali Khan plays his role with ease and is fine as a crook. Although Nikita Dutta's involvement contributes little to the plot, she always looks amazing. Even if they are predictable, several of the heist-related sequences are really interesting. Within their narrow parameters, a few cast members give mediocre performances.
On the whole, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins is a disappointing and poorly executed heist thriller. Apart from Saif Ali Khan’s average performance, nothing stands out. Weak storytelling, flat execution, technical shortcomings, and a total lack of suspense and thrills make this film a forgettable experience. Whether you’re a fan of the heist genre or not, skipping this film would be a smart choice.
